- Listen to the preview and save individual files or download the batch as a ZIP.
Shrinking WAV recordings
A WAV file stores uncompressed audio, so a minute of CD-quality stereo takes about 10 MB. That makes WAV ideal for editing and awkward for sharing. Converting to MP3 at 192 kbps typically cuts the size by around 85 percent, which is the difference between an attachment that bounces and one that sends. Podcast hosts, websites, and messaging apps all accept MP3.
Before you convert
Finish editing in WAV first, because every lossy save adds a little loss. Choose 128 kbps for speech, 192 kbps as the all-round default, and 256 or 320 kbps for music you plan to keep. The tool reads the sample rate and channels from your file and carries them across. Very long sessions use plenty of memory while they decode, so convert an hour-long recording in sections if your device struggles.
Troubleshooting and tips
WAV files can be 8-bit, 16-bit, 24-bit, or floating point, and your browser may not play every variety. This tool reads them with a built-in decoder, so most professional exports convert without trouble. Large files over 2 GB use an extended header that some older players cannot read, so record long sessions in several parts. After conversion, add a title and artist with the MP3 tag editor if the file will join a library.
Frequently asked questions
How much smaller is an MP3 than a WAV?
At 192 kbps, an MP3 is about one-seventh the size of CD-quality WAV. A ten-megabyte WAV minute becomes roughly 1.4 MB.
What bitrate should I use for a podcast?
128 kbps mono or stereo is the common podcast standard. Use 192 kbps if the recording includes music.
Will I lose quality converting WAV to MP3?
MP3 discards some detail. Keep the WAV as your master and share the MP3. At 256 to 320 kbps the difference is hard to hear.
All processing runs locally in your browser memory via WebAssembly and Web Audio. Files never leave your device. Built-in peak limiting prevents audio clipping.
