VOICE MEMO TO VIDEO

M4A to MP4 converter

Make an M4A recording, such as an iPhone voice memo or a GarageBand song, into an MP4 video with a picture, so you can post it where only videos are allowed. Nothing is uploaded; the conversion happens on your phone or computer.

Try a sample

Load a short spoken voice memo (an original text-to-speech line saved as M4A) with a generated picture, then make it a video.

Convert an M4A to MP4 in four steps

  1. Choose the M4A. On an iPhone, open Voice Memos, tap the recording, tap the three dots, choose Save to Files, then pick it here; or try the short sample memo.
  2. Add a photo or cover image, or keep a color background.
  3. Add a title, the date or a progress bar if you like, and pick landscape, square or vertical.
  4. Press Make MP4 and download the video.

Why convert a voice memo to a video

Voice Memos, GarageBand on iPhone and many Android recorders save M4A files. They play anywhere, but YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and some school and work platforms only take video uploads, and a plain audio file shows up as an attachment rather than something people press play on. Adding a picture turns the memo into a video: a lecture recording with the slide title, a song idea with your cover art, a message for a relative with a family photo. The square and vertical shapes suit Instagram and Stories; landscape suits YouTube.

What happens to the sound

An M4A from Voice Memos is AAC audio, the same codec an MP4 video uses, so nothing is lost in format terms. The tool still decodes and re-encodes it once at 192 kbps and 48 kHz, because many voice memos are mono or use sample rates that video platforms prefer to receive as standard stereo 48 kHz. Speech sounds the same; the file is about the size of the original plus a small picture track. If the memo has a long silence at the start, trim it first with the audio trimmer; if it has pauses you want gone, try the silence remover.

Phones, long recordings and limits

The tool runs in Safari and Chrome on phones as well as on computers, but a phone has less memory and a slower processor. A still picture keeps the work light: one frame per second, with the audio read in a stream, so a one-hour class recording is practical; on our laptop a 60-minute file took about 24 seconds. The animated waveform is limited to recordings of 10 minutes. Safari and phone browsers have not been tested by us yet, so if your browser cannot encode MP4 video, the page will say so; try a computer with Chrome or Edge.

Privacy for personal recordings

Voice memos are often personal: an interview, a family message, a meeting. The recording and the photo are read and encoded inside this browser tab and are never sent to AudioClover or to any server, and the page works offline after your first visit.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an iPhone voice memo to MP4?

Save the memo to the Files app (Voice Memos, three dots, Save to Files), open this page in Safari, choose the M4A, add a photo, and press Make MP4. The video lands in your Downloads folder in Files.

Is M4A the same as MP4?

Almost: both use the MPEG-4 container, but an M4A holds only audio. An MP4 video also holds a picture track, which is what this tool adds.

Can I convert an M4A from GarageBand or iTunes?

Yes. Any M4A with AAC audio works, including GarageBand exports and songs from your own library without copy protection. Files bought with old FairPlay DRM cannot be opened.

Will the M4A to MP4 conversion lose quality?

The audio is re-encoded once as 192 kbps AAC, which is transparent for voice and very close for music. The picture is encoded at full HD.

100% In-Browser Audio Processing

All processing runs locally in your browser memory via WebAssembly and Web Audio. Files never leave your device. Built-in peak limiting prevents audio clipping.
