Convert FLAC to WAV in three steps

    1. Choose one or more FLAC files, or try the included sample.
    2. Convert to WAV. Keep this tab open while it works.
    3. Listen to the preview and save individual files or download the batch as a ZIP.

FLAC to WAV without losing detail

FLAC is lossless compression, so decoding it to WAV reproduces the same audio the file represents. People convert when a DAW, CD burner, or hardware device accepts WAV but not FLAC. Because both formats are lossless, you can go back and forth without degrading the sound.

    Bit depth and size

This tool writes 16-bit PCM WAV, the standard for CD-quality audio. If your FLAC is 24-bit, the conversion reduces it to 16-bit, which is inaudible for listening but matters if you intend to master from the file. Expect the WAV to be about twice the size of the FLAC. Keep the FLAC as your archive; it stores the same audio in less space.

    Troubleshooting and tips

Metadata such as artist and album does not always survive the trip to WAV. Tags are not part of the basic WAV format and may not be carried across, so keep the FLAC as your tagged master. Multichannel FLAC files with more than two channels are written with all channels, but some players only handle stereo. If you are burning a CD, remember that it requires 44.1 kHz.

When WAV is the better choice

FLAC saves space, but WAV is understood by more hardware and older software, including some CD burners, broadcast systems, and samplers. If your device supports FLAC, there is no need to convert. If you only need a smaller file for sharing, use FLAC to MP3 instead. Converting between the two lossless formats is safe to repeat, so you can always make another WAV from the FLAC later.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is FLAC to WAV lossless?

Yes for 16-bit sources. The WAV contains the same audio. A 24-bit FLAC is reduced to 16-bit by this tool.

Why is the WAV larger than the FLAC?

FLAC compresses the audio without loss; WAV stores it raw. Expect about double the size.

Can I convert an album at once?

Yes. Select multiple files, convert, and download them individually or as a ZIP archive.
