Convert Audio to WAV in three steps

    1. Choose one or more audio or video files, or try the included sample.
    2. Convert to WAV. Keep this tab open while it works.
    3. Listen to the preview and save individual files or download the batch as a ZIP.

    When you want a WAV

Editors, samplers, language-learning apps, and speech tools often accept WAV and nothing else. WAV is also the best way to hand audio from one program to another, because it adds no extra compression and carries no tags or surprises.

    What the converter does

It opens the file, identifies its format from the contents, decodes the primary audio track, and writes 16-bit PCM. The sample rate and channels are not changed. Video files lose their picture and keep only the sound.

    Size and storage

Plan for about 10 MB per minute of stereo at 44.1 kHz, or around 600 MB for an hour. Mono recordings are half of that. Long sessions use memory while they decode, so convert very large files in sections on a phone.

    WAV or MP3

Choose WAV for the middle of a workflow and MP3 for the end. Edit in WAV, then export a single MP3 for sharing so that the audio is compressed only once.

MKV, AVI, WMV, 3GP and WMA files

These formats share this page instead of having one each. MKV recordings from OBS usually carry AAC or Opus and decode in the browser; Dolby Digital and DTS tracks from movie releases do not, and the converter says so instead of writing silence. 3GP clips from old phones hold AAC, or AMR speech, which the extra decoder reads. AVI, WMV and WMA are Windows-era formats that browsers cannot open on their own, so the first one you convert downloads a decoder of about 30 MB that your browser keeps for next time. Your file is never uploaded.

    Frequently asked questions

What kind of WAV does this make?

16-bit PCM at the sample rate of the decoded audio, with the channel count of the source. This is the most compatible kind of WAV and works in every editor.

Why is the WAV so much bigger than my file?

WAV is uncompressed. A minute of stereo at 44.1 kHz is about 10 MB. If you only need a smaller file, convert to MP3 instead.

Can I use the WAV for transcription or machine learning?

Yes. Most speech tools accept 16-bit PCM WAV. The sample rate is kept as it was, so downsample to 16 kHz mono in your tool if it requires that.

Can I convert MKV, AVI, WMV, 3GP or WMA to WAV here?

Yes. Choose the file on this page. MKV and 3GP usually decode directly in the browser; AVI, WMV, WMA and AMR audio in 3GP use an extra decoder that downloads once. Only the primary audio track is written to the WAV.

    100% In-Browser Audio Processing

All processing runs locally in your browser memory via WebAssembly and Web Audio. Files never leave your device. Built-in peak limiting prevents audio clipping.
