RECORD IN THE BROWSER
Voice recorder
Record your voice from any microphone, pause when you need a breath, and save the take as MP3, WAV or the browser’s own WebM. Then trim it, cut the pauses or remove the ums without uploading anything.
This free online voice recorder records from your microphone with pause and resume, then saves the take as MP3, WAV or WebM. No signup, and the recording stays in your browser until you download it.
Record your voice online in three steps
- Pick a microphone, then press Record and allow access when the browser asks.
- Speak. Use Pause to stop for a moment and Resume to continue in the same take; the live waveform shows your level.
- Press Stop, listen back, and save as MP3, WAV or WebM, or send the take straight to the trimmer, silence remover or filler word remover.
How recording works here
The page uses your browser’s built-in recorder (the MediaRecorder API). Most browsers record Opus audio in a WebM file; browsers that cannot (older Safari versions) record AAC in an MP4 container, which this page names .m4a. That original file is the smallest and is offered first. If you need MP3 for a phone, a podcast host or an email, press Save as MP3 and the take is converted on your device at 192 kbps; WAV gives you uncompressed 16-bit audio for an editor. MP3 re-encodes the audio, which costs a little quality, so every conversion here starts from the original take rather than from an earlier conversion; WAV keeps exactly what the browser recorded. Pause and Resume keep everything in one file with no gap in the timeline.
Getting a clean recording
Before a long take, record ten seconds and listen. Speak about a hand’s width to a forearm’s length from the microphone, slightly off to the side so your breath does not pop on P and B sounds. A soft room (curtains, a sofa, a closet of clothes) sounds far better than a bare kitchen, and closing the window matters more than any filter. The options under the record button control the browser’s voice processing: noise suppression and echo cancellation help in a noisy room or when your speakers are on, while automatic gain evens out your level. For music or anything that is not speech, switch them all off, because they are tuned for calls and can make instruments pump or warble. The level meter should peak in the upper half without the clipping warning.
Editing after you record
When you stop, the take appears with a waveform, a player and buttons that pass it to other AudioClover tools in this browser, without uploading: the audio trimmer cuts the start and end, the silence remover shortens long pauses, the filler word remover finds um and uh with on-device speech recognition, the noise reducer lowers steady hiss and hum, and normalize sets a consistent loudness for podcasts. The file is handed over through your browser’s own storage and removed after ten minutes. If you want to check the room before recording, the mic test shows the live level, the noise floor and which processing your browser applied.
Limits to know about
Everything stays in memory, so a very long recording (several hours) can run out of memory on a phone; record in parts if you can. If you lock a phone or switch apps, mobile browsers may pause or stop the microphone, and some stop the recording entirely; keep the page in front. Closing or reloading the tab discards the take unless you have saved it. The quality is set by your microphone, the room and the browser’s encoder: this is a convenient recorder, not a replacement for a dedicated audio interface and recording software when you need multitrack or 24-bit capture.
Frequently asked questions
Is this online voice recorder free?
Yes. Recording, pausing, and saving as MP3, WAV or WebM are free with no signup, no watermark and no time limit other than your device’s memory.
Is my voice recording uploaded anywhere?
No. The take is recorded and kept in your browser’s memory, and converting it to MP3 or WAV also happens on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
How do I record my voice and save it as an MP3?
Press Record, speak, press Stop, then press Save as MP3. The download starts from your own device; there is no upload step.
Can I pause a recording and continue later?
Yes. Pause keeps the take open and Resume continues it in the same file. Stop finishes the take; starting again makes a new recording.
Why does my recording stop when I switch apps on my phone?
Mobile browsers may suspend the microphone when the page is in the background. Keep the browser in front and the screen on while recording.
All processing runs locally in your browser memory via WebAssembly and Web Audio. Files never leave your device. Built-in peak limiting prevents audio clipping.
