SPLIT AUDIO

Audio splitter

Turn one long recording into separate tracks. Let the silences find the breaks, list the times yourself, or cut equal parts, then download every piece.

Try a sample

Hear a phrase with a long pause, then split it into two tracks at the silence.

Split an audio file in three steps

  1. Choose an audio file, or a video if you only want its sound, or press Try sample.
  2. Pick how to split and set the times, the part length, or the silence settings.
  3. Press Split audio, listen to each piece, and download single files or a ZIP.

Split where the recording goes quiet

A recording of several voice memos, a practice session, a lecture with breaks, or a digitized tape usually has real gaps between its parts. Split at silences looks for quiet stretches longer than the minimum gap you set and cuts through the middle of each one, so no speech or music is touched. The threshold and minimum length work the same way as on the silence remover. The method finds natural breaks in clean recordings; it cannot tell one song from the next if they flow together, so check the pieces and adjust the threshold if breaks are missed or extra ones appear.

Split at times you choose

When you already have a track list or chapter marks, type the points, for example 30, 1:15, 2:40. Seconds, minutes and seconds, and hours, minutes and seconds are all accepted, separated by commas, spaces or semicolons. Points outside the recording are ignored. The pieces are numbered in order, so a recording with three points becomes four files.

Equal parts for upload limits and practice

Equal parts divides the recording into pieces of the length you choose, for example five minutes each, with the last piece taking whatever remains. It is useful for staying under a length limit on a messaging app or a transcription service, for practicing a speech in sections, and for chopping a long mix into listening-sized chunks. Splits are capped at 200 files to protect your browser.

Quality, formats and limits

MP3 pieces are encoded again after cutting, which adds a small generation of loss; choose WAV to keep the decoded audio exactly. Each piece gets a few milliseconds of fade at its ends so the joins do not click, which means the pieces are not sample-exact copies of the original. The whole recording is decoded into memory first, so very long files can be heavy on a phone, and a video file is split by its soundtrack only.

Frequently asked questions

How do I split a long audio file into separate tracks?

Use Split at silences if there are clear pauses between the parts, or Split at times if you know where each part starts. Each piece downloads as its own numbered file.

Can I split audio automatically at the quiet parts?

Yes. Set the silence threshold and the shortest gap that counts as a break, and the tool cuts through the middle of each one. If it misses breaks, raise the threshold.

What time format do I type for split points?

Seconds such as 90 or 90.5, or minutes and seconds such as 1:30. Separate several times with commas, spaces or semicolons.

Does the audio splitter work on video files?

It reads the soundtrack of an MP4, MOV or WEBM and splits that. The pieces are audio only. To shorten a video and keep the picture, use the remove silence from video page.

100% In-Browser Audio Processing

All processing runs locally in your browser memory via WebAssembly and Web Audio. Files never leave your device. Built-in peak limiting prevents audio clipping.
