AUDIO LEVEL

Volume booster

Make a quiet recording louder without distortion. Add a fixed amount of gain or match a target loudness, check the peaks, then download.

This free volume booster makes quiet audio or video louder by up to 30 dB, or matches a target loudness, with a limiter that prevents clipping. No signup is needed, and the file is processed in your browser, never uploaded.

Try a sample

Hear a quiet spoken phrase, then boost it with peak protection.

Boost the volume of an audio file in three steps

  1. Choose an audio file or a video with a quiet soundtrack, or try the included sample.
  2. Pick a mode. Gain adds a fixed number of decibels. Match loudness raises the whole file toward a target average level.
  3. Press Boost volume, listen to the result, and download it as an MP3.

Gain or loudness: which mode to use

Gain mode is predictable. Add 6 dB and every sample gets exactly twice the amplitude, roughly the step between a quiet and a comfortable level. It suits recordings that are evenly quiet, such as a microphone set too low. Match loudness mode measures the average level of the file and lifts it to a target, which suits files you need to sit beside others, such as clips for a podcast, a presentation, or a playlist. Because speech has loud peaks and quiet words, the loudness mode is usually the one that makes a recording feel louder. If you need to hit a published target such as −16 LUFS for a podcast, use the normalize audio page, which measures loudness the way broadcasters do.

What peak protection does

Digital audio has a hard ceiling. A sample that tries to exceed it is clipped, which sounds like crackling. Peak protection leaves the signal alone below about 70 percent of the ceiling and then bends louder peaks smoothly toward −1 dBFS, so the boosted file stays clean. You can turn protection off to apply plain gain with hard clipping, but the preview will tell you how many samples were clipped.

How much can you boost?

Boosting amplifies everything, including background hiss and room noise. A few decibels is almost always safe. Beyond +12 dB the noise floor of a poor recording becomes obvious. If you need more loudness than the file can give, clean up with the silence remover or the equalizer first, then boost. The volume booster never uploads your file; the math runs in your browser using the Web Audio decoder and the MP3 encoder.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make an MP3 louder online?

Choose the MP3, select a gain or loudness target, press Boost volume, and download the new MP3. The change is made on your device, so the file is never uploaded.

Will boosting volume reduce audio quality?

The gain itself does not, but the file is re-encoded as MP3, and boosting also raises background noise. Peak protection prevents clipping distortion, which is the most common quality loss when making audio louder.

What is the maximum boost?

Up to 30 dB of gain. In practice 3 to 12 dB is useful. Match loudness mode chooses the gain for you and caps it at 30 dB.

Can I make a video louder?

Use the video volume booster, which keeps the picture and replaces the soundtrack with the boosted version. Or choose audio-only export here to get an MP3.

Is the volume booster free?

Yes. Boosting and downloading are free, with no signup, no account and no watermark on the audio.

Is there a file size limit for the volume booster?

There is no upload limit because nothing is uploaded. The file is decoded in your browser’s memory, so the tool warns above 150 MB: very long files may be slow or fail on a phone, and a computer handles them better.

100% In-Browser Audio Processing

All processing runs locally in your browser memory via WebAssembly and Web Audio. Files never leave your device. Built-in peak limiting prevents audio clipping.
